How to Make Chinese-style Stir-Fried Tofu with Vegetables and Peanuts

Chinese-style stir-fried tofu with vegetables and peanuts is a delicious and nutritious dish that is easy to prepare. This recipe is not only packed with flavor but also offers a great balance of protein and vegetables, making it a perfect choice for a healthy meal. Follow these simple steps to create your own stir-fried tofu at home.

Ingredients:

  • 14 oz firm tofu
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (bell peppers, broccoli, and carrots)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted roasted peanuts
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional for extra crispiness)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Tofu

Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a weight on top for about 15-20 minutes. Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes. For extra crispiness, toss the tofu cubes in cornstarch.

Step 2: Stir-Fry the Tofu

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Fry the tofu until it’s golden brown on all sides, about 7-10 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3: Cook the Vegetables

In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Sauté the minced garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the mixed vegetables and stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until they are crisp-tender. You can customize the vegetable mixture according to your preferences.

Step 4: Combine Ingredients

Add the fried tofu back into the skillet with the vegetables. Pour in the soy sauce and stir gently to combine all the ingredients. Continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors.

Step 5: Add Peanuts and Season

Stir in the roasted peanuts, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for another minute until everything is heated through. This adds a delightful crunch and nutty flavor to the dish.

Step 6: Serve

Transfer your stir-fried tofu with vegetables and peanuts to a serving dish. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for additional flavor and visual appeal. Serve hot, either on its own or over a bed of steamed rice or noodles.

This Chinese-style stir-fried tofu is not only satisfying but also versatile, allowing you to use whatever vegetables you have on hand. Enjoy this hearty and wholesome meal that’s perfect for any occasion!
