This unique blend of flavors and textures creates a satisfying meal that’s both healthy and easy to prepare. Follow this guide to create your own mouth-watering stir-fry at home.

Ingredients

To prepare a delicious Chinese-style tofu and bamboo shoots stir-fry, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 block of firm tofu (14 oz), drained and cubed
  • 1 cup bamboo shoots, sliced (fresh or canned)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color)
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Tofu

Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the block of tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 15-20 minutes. Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.

Step 2: Cook the Tofu

In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the cubed tofu and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Once cooked, remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3: Stir-Fry the Vegetables

Add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet. Sauté the minced garlic and ginger for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the bell pepper and broccoli florets, stirring frequently for about 3-5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.

Step 4: Add Bamboo Shoots and Tofu

Mix in the bamboo shoots and return the golden tofu to the skillet. Stir everything together, ensuring that the ingredients are well combined.

Step 5: Season the Dish

Pour in the soy sauce and oyster sauce (if using) over the mixture. Stir well to evenly coat the tofu and vegetables. Drizzle the sesame oil over the stir-fry and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

Remove the stir-fry from heat and serve it hot over a bed of cooked rice. Enjoy your homemade Chinese-style tofu and bamboo shoots stir-fry!

Tips for the Perfect Stir-Fry

To elevate your stir-fry, consider these additional tips:

  • For added protein, include other vegetables like snow peas or carrots.
  • Adjust the amount of soy sauce based on your salt preference.
  • If you enjoy a bit of heat, add sliced chili peppers or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
  • Substitute the tofu with tempeh or seitan for a different texture.

Making Chinese-style tofu and bamboo shoots stir-fry is a simple yet rewarding culinary experience. With fresh ingredients and a quick cooking time, it's an ideal dish for weeknight dinners. Enjoy this vibrant, healthy meal that's sure to impress your family and friends!
