How to Cook Chinese-style Stir-Fried Tofu with Mixed Vegetables

Cooking a delicious Chinese-style stir-fried tofu with mixed vegetables is both quick and easy. This dish is a healthy option that is packed with protein and nutrients, making it ideal for a wholesome meal. Below are the steps to create this flavorful dish.

Ingredients

To prepare this scrumptious stir-fry, you will need:

  • 1 block of firm tofu
  • 2 cups of mixed vegetables (bell peppers, broccoli, snap peas, carrots)
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce (optional for non-vegetarians)
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Spring onions for garnish

Preparation Steps

Step 1: Prepare the Tofu

Start by draining the firm tofu and pressing it to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 15-20 minutes. Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes. For added crunch, you can toss the tofu in cornstarch before cooking.

Step 2: Stir-Fry the Tofu

In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Allow them to cook for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden and crispy, turning gently to cook on all sides. Once cooked, remove the tofu from the skillet and set it aside.

Step 3: Cook the Vegetables

In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, and toss in the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Next, add the mixed vegetables to the pan. Stir-fry the vegetables for about 3-5 minutes until they are bright and tender-crisp.

Step 4: Combine and Season

Add the fried tofu back into the skillet with the mixed vegetables. Pour in the soy sauce and oyster sauce (if using). Stir everything together, ensuring the tofu and vegetables are well-coated in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5: Serve

Once everything is heated through, remove the skillet from the heat. Serve your Chinese-style stir-fried tofu with mixed vegetables hot over steamed rice or noodles. Garnish with chopped spring onions for an extra burst of flavor.

Tips for the Perfect Stir-Fry

  • Use a variety of colorful vegetables for visual appeal and nutritional diversity.
  • Keep the vegetables slightly crunchy for the best texture.
  • Feel free to customize your stir-fry with your favorite sauces and spices.

This homemade Chinese-style stir-fried tofu with mixed vegetables is not just delectable but also a great dish to impress your family and friends. Enjoy this tasty and vibrant meal any day of the week!
