How to Cook Chinese-style Tofu and Vegetable Stir-Fry

Cooking a delicious Chinese-style tofu and vegetable stir-fry is not only quick and easy but also a fantastic way to enjoy a healthy meal. Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup snow peas
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the Tofu

Start by cutting the firm tofu into bite-sized cubes. This will ensure even cooking and allow the flavors to penetrate the tofu. In a bowl, combine the tofu cubes with the soy sauce and let them marinate for about 15 minutes. This step is crucial to add depth to the flavor.

2. Coat the Tofu

After marinating, sprinkle the cornstarch over the tofu cubes. This will create a crispy exterior when stir-fried, enhancing the overall texture of the dish. Gently toss to coat evenly.

3. Heat the Oil

4. Cook the Tofu

5. Stir-Fry the Vegetables

In the same skillet, add a little more oil if necessary and toss in the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the sliced bell pepper, broccoli florets, and snow peas. Stir-fry the vegetables for 3-4 minutes until they are vibrant and tender-crisp.

6. Combine and Season

Add the cooked tofu back into the skillet with the vegetables. Drizzle sesame oil over the mixture and season with salt and pepper to taste. Gently toss everything together to ensure the flavors meld.

7. Garnish and Serve

Just before serving, sprinkle the chopped green onions over the stir-fry for a pop of color and added freshness. You can serve your Chinese-style tofu and vegetable stir-fry over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
