How to Make Chinese-style Stir-Fried Tofu and Vegetables

Chinese-style stir-fried tofu and vegetables is a delicious and healthy dish that is not only easy to prepare but also packed with flavor. This recipe is perfect for those who want a quick weeknight meal or a satisfying plant-based option. Follow the steps below to make a delightful stir-fry that will impress both yourself and your guests.

Ingredients

To make Chinese-style stir-fried tofu and vegetables, gather the following ingredients:

  • 14 oz firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 cup snap peas
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions

1. Prepare the Tofu

Start by cutting the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes. In a medium bowl, toss the tofu with cornstarch, seasoning with a little salt and pepper. This step will help give the tofu a crispy texture when cooked.

2. Heat the Oil

In a large wok or skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove the tofu from the pan and set it aside on a plate.

3. Stir-Fry the Vegetables

In the same pan, add the minced garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the sliced bell pepper, broccoli florets, julienned carrot, and snap peas. Stir-fry the vegetables for approximately 4-5 minutes, or until they are tender yet still crisp.

4. Combine Tofu and Sauce

Return the crispy tofu to the pan with the vegetables. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce and sesame oil, then pour this mixture over the tofu and vegetables. Gently stir to combine all ingredients and allow the flavors to meld together for 2-3 minutes.

5. Serve

Once everything is heated through, taste and adjust seasonings if necessary. Serve your Chinese-style stir-fried tofu and vegetables over cooked rice or noodles for a satisfying meal. Enjoy!

Tips for Your Stir-Fry

Here are a few tips to enhance your stir-fried dish:

  • Feel free to use any combination of vegetables you prefer or have on hand – zucchini, mushrooms, and baby corn also work well.
  • For added heat, consider adding a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha to the soy sauce mixture.
  • To elevate the flavor, garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions before serving.

Your Chinese-style stir-fried tofu and vegetables will not only be a hit at the dinner table but also a healthy addition to your weekly meal prep. Enjoy this colorful and nutritious dish!
