If you’re looking for a delicious and healthy dish, Chinese-style tofu and choy sum stir-fry is a fantastic option. Packed with plant-based protein and rich in vitamins, this vibrant dish is not only easy to make but also incredibly satisfying. Follow this simple recipe to create a flavorful meal that will impress your family and friends.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 2 cups choy sum, rinsed and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce or a vegetarian stir-fry sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Tofu

Start by cutting the tofu into bite-sized cubes. This allows for even cooking and makes it easy to enjoy in your stir-fry. Heat one tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the tofu cubes. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the tofu is golden brown on all sides. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set it aside.

Step 2: Stir-fry the Aromatics

In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once heated, add the minced garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.

Step 3: Add Choy Sum

Next, add the chopped choy sum to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until the greens are wilted and tender but still vibrant. Choy sum cooks quickly, so keep an eye on it.

Step 4: Combine Tofu and Sauce

Return the fried tofu to the skillet with the choy sum. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce and oyster sauce (or vegetarian alternative). Pour the sauce over the tofu and greens, gently tossing to combine. Let it cook for another 1-2 minutes to heat through and allow the flavors to meld.

Step 5: Season and Serve

Flavors can be adjusted according to your taste. Add salt and pepper if needed. Once everything is combined and heated, remove the skillet from heat. You can garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for an extra touch of flavor and presentation.

Serving Suggestions

This Chinese-style tofu and choy sum stir-fry can be served over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal. It pairs beautifully with other dishes like stir-fried rice or even a simple soup. Enjoy the healthy, colorful stir-fry as a hearty meal any day of the week.

Tips for the Perfect Stir-Fry

  • Ensure your tofu is well-pressed to remove excess moisture for a better texture.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables, such as bell peppers or mushrooms, for more variety.
